For our third week of division play we drove about 2 hours to play Heerenveen. This will be a fairly short post again, as I was still unable to play this week. My injury has actually gotten better, but there is no reason to risk it right now. It is still the beginning of a very long season, so I am continuing to work hard and focus on rehab to make sure I will be 100% ready when my time finally comes, and my name is called.
As always, we are one team whether I am in the starting 11 or not. In the beginning of the game we were getting outplayed. For the first 5 minutes our opponent was pressing like crazy and we were simply not playing our game. We were playing right into the style they wanted to play. Luckily, after the first 5 minutes, it was like a switch was flipped. We started to control the play dramatically – we were DOMINATING. Trust me I would give anything to not have to watch from the sidelines right now, but it’s a cool feeling when you watch your team play good soccer form the sideline – almost like a sense of pride.
We were able to move the ball around with 1-2 touches, stay compact and defend in lines, and score 5 good goals along the way. You would have thought it was a home game with the way we were playing. I was very impressed and I’m sure our opponents were too. I cannot wait to get back on the field, but I’m confident our team will be in a great place when it’s time for me to come back. Speaking of places, with that 5-0 win on the road we moved into 2ndplace! Now we get to come home and play the 1stplace team before a three-week international break. We really couldn’t be in a better position at this point in time. We deserve it!
